Enablers of HR strategy (second opinion insourcing realization DCO)

For a leading player within the renewable energy industry, we are investigating the wisdom of insourcing realization work. The goal is to become competitive and make the right decisions in a competitive market.

The Challenge

The realization work for the DCO installations is currently outsourced to external parties. Is it better to insource this work? To answer that question, a risk analysis was conducted internally. Before the steering committee makes a final decision, the project team wants to test whether the assumptions used in the impact analysis are correct, complete and market-based. Ecopulz was therefore asked to perform a second opinion to validate the opportunities and impact from the analysis.

The Solution

The assignment covers all phases of the generation part of the value chain; engineering/sales, realization and exploitation. Therefore, we from Ecopulz set up the project with three knowledge carriers from these different domains; Olaf (exploitation), Ramon (realization) and Niels (engineering).

We did a reflection on the assumptions of opportunities and risks. One main risk emerged that could make the plan impossible: the lack of knowledge and expertise within the organization. Indeed, the company in question needs to gain knowledge so that operations can be scaled up.

Our main recommendation therefore focuses on identifying the knowledge required for different scenarios, the current knowledge present within the organization and any gaps between them. This analysis will be the basis for a well thought-out plan in collaboration with the recruitment team, to supplement the required expertise in a sustainable and efficient manner.
